colectiva.

Bárbara Taboada
(Puelmapu-Argentina)
Ülkantufe, “music and not music”.
Graduated from
the Musical Composition career of the Center for Advanced Studies in
Contemporary Music. Master in Musical Creation, New Technologies and
Traditional Arts of the National University of Tres de Febrero,
As Mapuche, creator
and intercultural teacher in contexts of confinement, lamngen (hna) in active
participation with pre-existing nations of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico,
Puerto Rico and the US, I understand that the repressed freedom of those who
have not had a legitimate voice for centuries, it becomes audible in the deep
silence that inhabits the subcutaneous orality of an entire continent. Here
arises a current art that is torn between the complicity of perpetuating the
created fiction or assume and shout that which springs up in the mud, in the
periphery, in the roots.
Living soul in
post-para-colonial resistance, coppery survivor to the racist academicism
embodied in the institutions; I seek to dismember the Eurocentric
melodic-harmonic structures embedded under the pre-established aesthetic
canons, which have been exported to this "imposed America", as the
only possible truth. For this reason I work to free chains, to assume an
identity reconstruction that contains us with dignity.
In my
experience, if music is defined as
"cultural product" under the hegemonic anthropocentric view, I
declare that there are "no musics", subtle and elementary, ancestral
expressions that must be respected and re-created in co-creation with nature.
In our continent, where old worlds coexist,
everything communicates, everything has its "zungu": rain, wind, air,
volcanoes and above all, silences ... in them I focus my attention.
From the full
silences memory emerges in the thinking vegetation; from which sprout people of
struggle and resistance, dream makers, guardians and translators of true
wisdom; that which does not fit in the institutions (of) -forming the future of
our lives, of our children, of our forests, mountains, lakes and seas.
Thus, aware that
in certain sound expressions, living frameworks, melodies / textures / timbres
co-created in and by nature are generated; so, respectfully, I live and walk
between music and not music.
As a composer, luthier and performer, I have presented works, songs and words in different universities in Argentina and Chile (UNMDP, UNCUYO, UCA, UBA, UNTREF), in Indo-Latin American cultural and community centers, in Federal Prisons, Neighborhood Settlements, Meetings Native Youths; as well as in native ceremonies.
For 10 years I have been supporting the self-managed project "Musicians and non-musicians", which proposes to offer an intercultural option not subordinated to cultural-hetero-white anthropocentrism. Thus I offer itinerant courses, workshops and seminars in different contexts, to awaken and assume the collective continental identity.
